What really made CCU “click” for you? Was there a specific moment that made you say, “this is where I want to be for the next 4 years.”?
Were you an in or out of state student? If you were out of state or even from a part of the state farther from Conway, did you find the transition into CCU difficult? Was there any specific aspect, program, or people that helped ease your way into college life?
As a former part of a sorority, how do you think participation in this impacted your college experience? Did being a sorority member impact your housing situation at all?
As a prominent name in D1 sports-especially baseball-how had the large presence of sports within the school affected your college experience?
Hello everyone, once again, my name’s Alexis and this is my first individual interview with an alumni from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. I spoke to Madi about her experiences at CCU. Go Chanticleers!
So Coastal was actually my last choice out of 4 schools. I only thought of it because I randomly saw a girl from my hometown post about it. My family and I ended up visiting while on vacation and I fell in LOVE with Coastal. I loved the campus because it’s beautiful and I ended up joining Greek Life which got me involved and ultimately kept me at Coastal
I’m an out of state student. I’m originally from Pennsylvania so around 10 hours from Coastal. The transition for me was a little hard because i’m very close with my family and I’m from a small town so I wasn’t used to being alone and it was a big change. Like I said earlier, my sorority really helped me ease into the school just because it forced me to put myself out there. I met friends in all organizations and got to do a lot of events and volunteering which kept me busy so I didn’t miss home as much.
As for my sorority specifically, I would say it positively impacted my college experience. Of course it depends on the person and it’s not for everyone, but I will say that you get out of it what you put into it. You make the experience good or not. Coastal doesn’t have greek housing, so we did not have a sorority house. Panhellenic life at Coastal is very inclusive so I actually lived with girls in different sororities all 4 years!
Sports at Coastal also varies. I come from a household that loves sports, especially baseball and football. Unfortunately, football isn’t a big deal at Coastal like it is at surrounding schools like USC or Clemson. The stadium just got expanded so I’m sure more students will attend, but I did not attend many games other than big ones like Homecoming. Baseball games would be the most popular I would say but all sports welcome people to come and watch them. It’s just whatever you enjoy watching!
