For the University of Maryland, I had the opportunity to interview Valeria, who was so sweet and kind to provide some great responses for students who are interested in UMD!! I highly recommend you check out her responses! Thank you so much Val!

How would you describe the weather at UMD? Does it frequently snow? What would advise students to bring when coming to UMD?

"The weather at UMD is pleasant most of the time. This year didn’t really snow, it rained but it was tolerable. Make sure you bring rain boots, a resistant umbrella and a rain coat. The warmer weather is very nice. Bring comfortable walking shoes because there will be many times where you’ll have to walk a lot."

What makes UMD? So special to you? Was it your first choice and your dream school?

"I knew that I wanted to attend UMD after the first time I visited. The campus is big but it is very beautiful. The architecture, activities and the places around campus drew my attention to this school, in addition to their academic reputation of course. It is also close to home which I liked too.

Would you say your classes are very rigorous and require work outside of school, or is it more layback and you have time to go out and hang out with friends?

"My classes are rigorous since I am an engineering major, and it requires discipline and effort. But you still have time that you can spend on fun activities or for personal time, just make sure that you set good organization and time management skills before getting into college. Trust me you’ll need them if you want to have fun as well!"

How would you describe the environment at UMD?

"I love it. Personally, I love that there is literally something for everybody. I like that they have resources for every major and various interests. The people I’ve met are nice and supportive. I love sports events as well, so much spirit!!"

What is one thing you wished you did more research on before applying to colleges? Should students pay attention to how good the food is, whether the college is prestigious, or if it’s a good college for their major?

"I wish I knew more about how much money I would need for classes, food, transportation, supplies, etc. before attending, although I can’t complain much. Most importantly make sure that the college has the program or major that you are interested it. I know that you can do virtual tours in some colleges and also watch videos on YouTube."
