For Northwestern, I had the opportunity to interview Kate, who was so generous to provide some amazing responses for students interested in Northwestern! I highly recommend you check out her responses to gain an insight into college life at Northwestern! Thank you so much Kate!

How would you describe the weather at Northwestern? Does it frequently snow? What would advise students to bring when coming to Northwestern?

"this is a question I don’t feel like I would do justice answering, as I’m a first year and winter was exceptionally warm this year. It didn’t snow a lot, but this is not the norm.

What makes Northwestern? So special to you? Was it your first choice and your dream school?

"it was indeed my dream school. I love how dynamic it is, how we are encouraged to explore so many different fields, how interdisciplinary everything is by nature. “AND is in our DNA” is a slogan often criticised for encouraging over-commitment but I’d say there’s plenty of truth in it! Almost everybody I know at NU is multi-major/school."

Would you say your classes are very rigorous and require work outside of school, or is it more laid back and you have time to go out and hang out with friends?

"I think that really varies a lot depending on the professor. Schoolwork is as demanding as you want it to be, a lot of it is your choice. This goes for most of college life imo. I’m a communications major, my “required” classes aren’t demanding at all, yet I enjoy pushing myself to do more, I like being productive and I still end up incredibly busy. I certainly also know people with rigorous majors but still got plenty of time for partying."

How would you describe the environment at Northwestern?

"the physical environment is a whole haven, Evanston is a charming college town and the lakeside campus is breathtaking. The social environment is also very comfortable, people are insanely friendly. I’ve made plenty of great friends/started great conversation just from sitting across one another at Starbucks."
