For UMich, I had the opportunity to interview Jojo! His responses are amazing and so helpful if you're interested in UMich! However, I still do not understand how he manages to get up so early because I'm am a night owl and get out of bed at 11:45 a.m.! Thank you so much Jojo!

How would you describe the weather at UMich? Does it frequently snow? What would advise students to bring when coming to UMich?
  • "So far as the weather goes it is really cold in the winter and really hot in the summer."

  • "For what to bring in winter I’d probably suggest a long coat that is really insulated, and able to keep you warm in weather they can get as low as -5°F."

  • "For summer I was suggest since it gets really humid and really warm having shorts and short sleeve shirts mostly in your wardrobe but also the occasional pair of pants and maybe a small Windbreaker for when it gets a little chilly."

What makes UMich? So special to you? Was it your first choice and your dream school?

"Umich was in fact not my dream school, but was one of my first choices. What makes it so special is the diversity factor here on campus. There are students that come from all over the world from Japan to South Africa and other countries and populations of students from all 50 states. Having that variety of people is a really great aspect of Umich. There is also the academic aspect UMich is ranked as the number one public school in the United States and the 21st ranked school in the world, so you can be assured that you’re getting a quality education from one of the best schools in not the country but the world as well."

Would you say your classes are very rigorous and require work outside of school, or is it more layback and you have time to go out and hang out with friends?

"I would say the course load at Umich is very rigorous and requires a lot of time outside of class to accomplish good standing in each course; however, that does not mean there is not plenty of time to hang out with your friends on the weekends and also during weekdays."

Personally, would you recommend morning or night classes?

"For me personally since I’m a morning person I would suggest morning classes I feel that it’s good to get them out of the way as soon as possible so that way you have time to do work after class or enjoy other activities such as clubs and other extracurriculars."

What is one advice you would give juniors who are considering applying to UMich? Should they focus on their stats and extracurriculars, or brainstorming ideas for their essays?

"One thing I would say for students that want to apply to Umich is don’t focus too much on your test scores because that is only one part of the academic process since Umich is a holistic school. I would say that Umich is looking for really well-rounded students that are both great within the classroom and outside of one. One thing that trips a lot of people up when they are applying here is that they assume that high test scores and high GPAs will get them in automatically but if you focus only on those and have no extracurriculars to back up your drive as a student it’s not always guaranteed."
