For Columbia University, I had the opportunity to interview Jalsa, who is so kind and provided some really helpful advice for the common app process! Thank you so much Jalsa for your generosity in helping other students! I also recommend checking out her responses about her college life at Columbia on the colleges' page for Columbia!

How would you describe the college application process?

"I almost applied to 21 schools so it was very stressful at first but I started very early and started writing supplemental essays in August."

What is one advice you would give to current high school juniors concerned about stats and extracurriculars? Is there a certain score they have to reach or they should worry about essays that makes them stand out when applying to Columbia?

"Test scores are starting to mean less and less so the Essays are your best friend!!! Make sure they tell them how you see the world, what you love and the fun quirky person you know you are ♥️. For extracurriculars, be as creative as possible. So many kids have lab internships nowadays. For example, if you like mechanical engineering, maybe start a business in your neighborhood where you repair cars ♥️ community involvement is also good since it shows that you are a global citizen."

For high school students still finding colleges to apply to, what is one thing you would recommend to do research on before applying?

"Research the programs not just your intented majors but any other potential interests. You might change your mind and you want the school to be strong in them too! Also CULTURE! Culture is really what determines fit. Make sure the student culture matches your vibe. Also seeing representation of yourself on campus is especially helpful ♥️."
