For Tufts, I was so lucky to interview Austen, who was so sweet and generous to provide some amazing responses for students interested in Tufts! I recommend you to check out the responses! Thank you so much Austen!

How would you describe the weather at Tufts? Does it frequently snow? What would advise students to bring when coming to Tufts?

"I can only speak for early spring semester, but it’s very cold basically all the time! It snows pretty frequently, and when there are some rare warm days (in the 60s) everyone is outside trying to make the most of it. I would bring lots of layers and invest in a good winter jacket."

What makes Tufts? So special to you? Was it your first choice and your dream school?

"I was definitely drawn to Tufts because of the dual degree program, because I knew I wanted to continue studying studio art, but also wanted to pursue a BA. I also liked how close to Boston the university is, and some of the unique internship and study abroad opportunities there."

Would you say your classes are very rigorous and require work outside of school, or is it more layback and you have time to go out and hang out with friends?

"Most classes require a significant bit of work outside of class, but it’s not too difficult to strike a good balance between studying and socializing. "

How would you describe the environment at Tufts?

"The main part of the Tufts environment that stood out to me is how self-motivated and open the students are. It feels like the majority of the student body has a genuine love of learning, and do well in their classes and activities because they are interested in the material."

What is one thing you wished you did more research on before applying to colleges? Should students pay attention to how good the food is, whether the college is prestigious, or if it’s a good college for their major?

"I honestly wish I hadn’t stressed so much about what majors each university offers - unless you’re dead set on one path, your major will likely change anyway. A university that has a well-rounded set of programs is more likely to be a good fit than one with one really established program in something you’re not completely sure about."
