For UCSD, I had the pleasure to interview Lara! She is so sweet and provided super helpful responses to help students who interested in UCSD! I would definitely recommend you to check out her responses! Thank you so much Lara!

What makes this UCSD so special to you? Was it your first choice and your dream school?

"UCSD was not my first choice or dream school, but I’m very happy I decided to go here. A lot of students who attend are in a similar position, but there’s so much to offer at UCSD and in San Diego as well. It’s a great school filled with amazing professors and tons of amazing students that, if you put yourself out there and make the most of your time here, it won’t be “socially dead” and you can truly gain valuable experiences."

What was your reaction when you opened your acceptance letter?

"I was excited and proud, especially because I wasn’t waitlisted (like many of my high school classmates)."

Personally, would you recommend morning or night classes?

"Morning classes for sure! It may be hard to get up but once I’m up and walking around campus I feel better and more productive. Most classes are offered during the day as well, usually."

How would you describe the weather at UCSD? What would you advise students to bring?

"Mostly sunny and the winters are really mild (average 60 degrees). It rains from time to time so bring an umbrella!"

What is one advice you would give to current high school juniors concerned about stats and extracurriculars? Is there a certain score they have to reach or they should worry about essays that makes them stand out when applying to UCSD?

"I’m not sure what future admissions processes are going to look like, but definitely the higher the SAT score the better. In the essays, be honest and try give the board a holistic view of yourself. They are a key part of admissions. Don’t be afraid to talk about your accomplishments or your struggles. If you really want to go to UCSD, explain in depth why."
