I had the pleasure to interview Desiree, an upcoming senior at Fordham and a current orientation leader for incoming freshmen! Desiree provided insight on student life at Fordham and advice. Thank you again Desiree!
How would you describe the weather at Fordham? Does it frequently snow? What would advise students to bring when coming to Fordham?
"Weather is never extreme. Since you go home for winter break, I wouldn’t worry too much about packing the wrong things. We’ve had some pretty moderate winters but definitely would advise you to bring a heavy winter coat. It also rains a bit so I’d consider getting rain boots/definitely an umbrella."
What makes Fordham unique?
What major did you pick and why? Does your major require an independent study or capstone project?
Were you awarded financial aid? If yes, how would you rate the financial aid package given? Was it able to remove some financial pressure?
How would you describe the workload? Do students study at home during the weekends or go out and relax with their friends?
"I think Fordham’s surrounding neighborhood is what makes Fordham (Rose Hill) special. I truly love the Bronx and the local food. There are some awesome spots. Including, but not limited to everything on Arthur Avenue."
"I chose marketing. We don’t have an independent study, but the business school does a Consulting Cup project your sophomore year. You’re placed in a cohort, and assigned a fortune 500 company. It’s your team's obligation to find a problem and solution for the company. It’s a competition amongst the whole graduating business class and whoever wins gets some $."
"I definitely have more of an academic scholarship but as far as I know Fordham is pretty expensive/not fantastic with financial aid."
"Workload for Gabelli (Business school) isn’t gruesome. I’d say I do a lot of teaching myself, and my liberal arts requirements tended to be harder. We have a pretty intense core curriculum, just something to consider! You’re definitely challenged. However, I believe they’re updating the entire core for incoming freshmen so I’d keep a lookout for updates. During midterms/finals, I’m pretty much locked in the library at all hours. (All nighters definitely happen!) Other than that, it’s pretty easy to navigate my schedule so I have my work done by the weekend and I can enjoy my time hanging out with friends."
