For Virginia Tech, I had the pleasure to interview a person who prefers to remain anonymous! They provided some super helpful responses for students interested in Virginia Tech! I recommend you to check out the responses! Thank you so much again! - Lillian
What is your major and why did you choose this major?
"My major is mechanical engineering, I was actually initially going to apply to aerospace engineering but I decided against it and thought it would be better if I went into aerospace later on in the course. I chose it because I liked it really, the prospect of helping create complex machines and bringing other creations to life really interests me."
Are professors available for research with students?
"Yes, We do actually! It is emphasised early on that we need research and guided research is available."
What kind of classes would you highly recommend students to take in high school before going off to college?
"Considering that the only three pathways at VT are engineering, business and science I’d definitely say math. All the pathways require a solid ability at math, some more than others. I'd also recommend English if you're an international student like me since they require a 6.0 IELTS minimum so work hard on that."
Were you awarded financial aid? If yes, how would you rate the financial aid package given? Was it able to remove some financial pressure?
"Unfortunately, they did not offer any financial aid to any international students which for some is undesirable but I was thankfully able to work out a different way. If financial aid is something that concerns you then I would recommend the study USA website."
