For San Diego Community College, I had the pleasure to interview Gia! She is so sweet and an amazing person and offered to help people who are interested in gaining an insight into or considering applying to a CC! Thank you so much Gia!
How would you describe the weather at SDCC? Does it frequently snow? What would advise students to bring when coming to CC?
"Since I live in San Diego, the weather is fairly warm and always sunny aside from maybe the winter and spring seasons when there’s periods of rainfall. I would advise students to bring an optimistic and positive attitude entering the school semesters. In terms of materials, you won’t need anything much different from that of attending any other school."
What makes sdCC so special to you?
"What makes Community College special is it’s efficiency in providing one on one counseling and guidance to it’s students since there are less students attending compared to thousands at a university. This calls for more personal and focused meetings between students and faculty. Their small classes are similar to high school sized classes compared to having hundreds of students in your class at a university which allows better bonds and communication between your professors.
Personally, would you recommend morning or night classes?
"I would personally recommend morning classes even though you aren’t a morning person. It makes you feel more productive that all your classes are over by the afternoon and have the rest of the day to finish out other tasks or responsibilities. However, depending if you are able to find a slot or class that works for you, you might have the only option to take later classes which is fine too."
How’s would you describe the environment at SDCC?
"The environment at a Community College is very independent. You focus mainly on yourself and go just to attend your classes and leave unless you participate in other extracurriculars. Being at a community college, however, sacrifices a lot of the other opportunities that universities offer such as big organizations and other social aspects. This can be seen as missing out but it also serves positively as an opportunity to focus solely on things that involve school with limited on-campus distractions."
How’s would you describe the environment at SDCC?
"I was awarded financial aid through a fund called the Board of Governor’s which paid for all my classes. Classes range from about $70-300 per class at a community college and if you were taking 6-7 classes your tuition would have been about $500-700 dollars, however, because of the grant all of my classes were paid out making the only thing I needed to pay for was a health fee of $26. However, you are still responsibility for obtaining other materials such as textbooks and such."
