For FIT, I had the opportunity to interview David! He provided such amazing responses to help if you're interested in FIT. Thank you so much David for offering to help and writing these beautiful responses! - Melissa

What makes your university/college so special to you? Was it your first choice and/or dream school?

FIT is located on 27th and 7th Avenue in Manhattan, also known as Chelsea. I believe what makes FIT special is its location and their professors. FIT is in the heart of New York City so there are so many opportunities right at the palm of your hands. Some classes I’ve taken allowed students and professors to go visit awesome places like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Jacob Javits Center. I’ve also been able to volunteer at fashion shows which was awesome. The professors also have made my experience special. They’re always in your corner and want you to be successful, but they also have years and years of experience working in the industry (so they know what they are talking about). FIT was absolutely my first choice but coming out of High School I did apply to other schools for business or dance. I actually took a summer FIT program my junior year of High School and that solidified FIT as my dream school.

What is your major and why did you choose it?

My major is FBM (Fashion Business Management), and I chose it at first because it was the class I took over the summer my junior year of High School. However, another reason I chose FBM as my major is because FBM is very broad. In class I've learned all about Product Development, Wholesale, Retail, Marketing, Advertisement, Visual Merchandising, Buying and Selling etc. So coming out of college I have all these tools in my belt where I can pursue whatever career I'd like.

How would you describe the workload?

The workload is fair. I have taken about 15 to 18 credits each semester and have felt overwhelmed at times but nothing that isn't manageable. I feel that my "fashion" classes per se are heavily focused on projects through the semester. These projects can not be done in one day and take time, which you are given. Most projects require students to visit retail stores to see their collection and layout of garments. All in all the workload is not too bad, but time management is a necessity.

What inspired you to strive and work hard to get into FIT?

Definitely that summer class I took at FIT in High School. It allowed me to become more independent which I loved. I learned how to use the subway system and break out of this shell I had in High School. It gave me a taste of what College would be like in New York City and I loved it.

What do you think makes your school unique?

FIT is unique because of the opportunities provided. Before COVID-19 every couple of weeks there were people from luxury brands who would come on campus for a couple of hours and would do interviews for jobs or internships. Some brands like Ralph Lauren, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Jimmy Choo etc.
