I had the pleasure of interviewing Jordan and Maria for FIU! Thank you both again for your amazing responses!
Jordan
What makes FIU unique? Was it your first choice and your dream school?
"I chose this school mainly because of how close it was, it was definitely my first choice but not my dream school. I want to be an Engineer, but sadly I'm not cut out for the top engineering school MIT but FIU is pretty great for people who want to do Engineering, which is why I chose it."
Were you awarded financial aid? If yes, how would you rate the financial aid package given? Was it able to remove some financial pressure?
"I was awarded aid for bright futures and from FAFSA. Both summed to about $9000 dollars, it's a good amount and helped relieve a lot of stress with payments."
What major did you pick and why?
"I chose my major to be Mechanical Engineering because I like to do all things Engineering, not just one category; Mechanical Engineering has just what I wanted."
Does FIU reflect on your major to your desire?
"FIU definitely has a place for students like me who want to do Engineering, they have a whole building dedicated to them. All for experiments, projects, and builds."
What kind of classes would you highly recommend students to take in high school before going off to college?
" Don't be me, go and take AP's, the credits will help you in the future. You get to not take certain classes for passing an AP test."
Maria
What makes FIU unique? Was it your first choice and your dream school?
"I guess what makes FIU different from the other Florida schools I applied to like UF, is that the campus is located closer to the city which I find better than being at a college town. It wasn’t my dream choice though I would’ve rather gone out of state, but because of bright futures I decided to stay in Florida and think I made a good decision with FIU over my other choices."
Were you awarded financial aid? If yes, how would you rate the financial aid package given? Was it able to remove some financial pressure?
"Yes, I did get financial aid I got 100% bright futures because of Cambridge and it has taken off a lot of financial pressure because even though I got other financial aid from FIU it wouldn’t have covered most of the expenses like bright futures does."
What major did you pick and why?
" I picked psychology as a major because it’s just been my dream for a while to study psychology."
Does FIU reflect on your major to your desire?
"I think FIU does reflect on it because it’s a popular major for them so they do have plenty of resources for people that wanna major in psychology."
What kind of classes would you highly recommend students to take in high school before going off to college?
"I definitely recommend taking a lot of AP or college credit classes to save you time and help you skip classes to avoid extra costs."
